OBX Vacation 2010

Olivia went on her first vacation to the OBX! We had a lot going on that week while we were there...her Aunt Julie got married, and she got to meet her Uncle Shawn and cousins Beth and Shai...plus she had so many people wanting to hug and kiss on her all day!! She was such a good girl on the car ride down there, especially since it took us 8 hours (traffic) to get there!!

And of course Malu and Bogart tagged along. Malu loves the beach and enjoyed playing in the sand and ocean just like we knew she would!

We took almost 500 pictures, so obviously we can't post them all...I've tried to just do a couple that would highlight the week! Enjoy!

Now that Olivia is to the age where we can start introducing solid foods, it has been a really fun (and messy) time. I think the title of this post says it all, so enjoy the pictures...I'm the one that took them and I still laugh every time I see them!!

We all had a fun filled 4th of July weekend. On Saturday we went to the Beatus' house for a cook-out and some swimming. Olivia loved the pool. She got to play with her rubber ducky and swim. The pool really tired her out!!

Then on Sunday we hung out at the house and enjoyed the nice weather outside. Malu loved being outside as well.

Of course my Mom had to get a festive outfit for me to wear!!

I am just growing right up!!! And sitting up on my own too!!

Happy 1st Father's Day!!

Although Billy has been a Father to Bogart and Malu for quite some time, this Father's Day was his first for him with our Baby Girl Olivia! Mommy and Olivia made him a special card and took special pictures just for him!

It was also my Dad's first Father's Day as a "Pop-Pop" so we made him a special card and took a special picture for him too!

It was a good day. Daddy had a roller hockey game so we went to watch him and cheer him on. Then we came home and had a nice relaxing afternoon just the 3 of us (plus the animals). Olivia even took a 2 hour nap which allowed Mommy and Daddy some much needed relaxation time. Then MomMom and PopPop came over for dinner. It was a good day!!

Announcing the New Arrival!

Okay...so when I posted last, which was on January 4, 2010, I had no idea when our new baby would be born. Two days later I found out that the baby was breech and was scheduled for a C-section on January 12, 2010. Well the baby had other plans, and I went into labor on January 9, 2010. And Olivia Lynn Hamilton was born!!

I know it has been a loooong time (she is now 5 months old) and I have no time to go back from the beginning and blog from the day she was born, so instead I'll try to be better about it and start from this point.

Today was a great day - Olivia had her first swim today in our neighbors pool. She loved it, and of course she looked absolutely adorable in her little bathing suit!! Here are some pics of the day!

By the end of the day, she was tuckered out!!

Getting ready for the new arrival (Part II)

So we have been busy buying all the essentials for the baby and making sure we have everything in order before our newest member of the family arrives...in the meantime, the "kids" have been checking out all this new stuff and don't quite know what to make of it all yet. I'm not sure if I mentioned before about Bogart getting caught sleeping in the crib - but he was! Then after we got the glider/rocker he found that to be easier to get in/out of, so he's been found napping there too. Well his most recent nap spot we found today - in the stroller!!! His nose will be quite out of joint when the baby is taking all his new spots!! Crazy animal!

And apparently Bogart and Malu are starting to either tolerate each other better, or have realized that they should join forces against the new baby - because they have become extremely tolerant of each other lately!! Check out these pictures . . .

And they both have been very "cuddly" with me - almost like they can sense something! (Don't mind how I look.)

My Mom and Dad keep talking about this new "baby" that is coming. I don't really think I know what that means, but they've been buying all kinds of crazy stuff and toys that I can't even play with. I've been supervising their decorating in the new room that all this new stuff has gone in.

We have really been negleting the blog...there is a lot going on with planning for our new arrival in January - and this time we mean the "two-legged" kind! We are not sure if it is a boy or girl - waiting for it to be a surprise - but we know that Malu and Bogart will love it... Maybe not at first, but it will definitely make things interesting for a while.

But...besides getting ready for the baby, Malu has been helping us cheer on our favorite football team with her own gear - a timely present from her Mom-Mom and Pop-Pop!

Malu wins another award!!

Our friend Janice submitted a picture of Malu from when she was about 3-4 months old to a local business magazine called "The Metropolitan" for the cutest pet contest. A couple weeks ago, we got a check in the mail addressed to Malu since she won 2nd place!! How exciting! However, I must say that after seeing the 1st place winner, I think Malu is much cuter!! That other puppy isn't even doing anything?!?!

Vacation in OBX!

Malu and Bogart went on their second vacation to OBX...and once again they loved it! Since Malu was bigger this time, and more familiar with water, she wasn't afraid of the waves at all, and would jump/leap into them and swim with her Daddy! Here are some pictures from our week.

Malu got a New Pool!

Malu loves the water, so we decided to get her a baby pool so that she can enjoy the water and cool off on hot days. She was a little unsure at first, but once her paws hit the water - it was second nature!

My First Boat Ride!

Mom and Dad took me to Cape May, NJ with them for Memorial Day weekend - but they really go to celebrate their anniversary (2 yrs)! Last year, I stayed with Mom-Mom and Pop-Pop when they went, but this year I got to go. It was so fun. I got to ride on a big boat for the first time. We just drove on and off we went. Dogs were allowed on the boat so here are some pics of my first boat trip.

Lime Green Paws!

Since I am so good about my electric fence, and never leave the yard, my Dad lets me come out with him when he is doing some work, even when he can't watch me the whole time. On this day, I decided to "supervise" him while he cut the grass. It had just rained the day before, so the grass was still kinda wet, and with it freshly cut...It turned my paws GREEN!!! Lime green to be exact.

It's kinda hard to see, but if you look real close, you can tell! Oops!

We are all so excited that is it FINALLY getting warmer. We can go outside and play, Bogart can eat grass...and overall, everyone can get their "cabin fever" energy out! Which always makes for more relaxed evenings :)

Yesterday it was snowing like crazy, and even though Malu has seen a little bit of snow before, it was nothing to write home about. However, this time we got a little more and she loved it. We already know how beautiful and special Malu is...but it always makes us happy to hear that other people think the same. We got another email from the breeder that Malu came from because they bred her parents again and wanted us to send some pictures of her to "advertise" for the new puppies that are due in early October. Homemade Dog-Proof Cat Feeder!

Malu has had an obsession with Bogart's food. No matter how many times we "reprimanded" her, she couldn't resist it. So... we saw this really cool cat feeder on Orvis.com, but we weren't willing to pay as much as it cost, so we built it ourselves.

We worked together to construct this feeder from plain wood. Then we stained it and used polyurethane to seal it to match our other furniture. We are pretty proud of it and Bogart seems to like it just fine...plus he is able to eat in PEACE!

Remember my friend Bella...

...well my mom took me to her house again this past weekend for another playdate. We had the best time. She loves tug-o-war just as much as me!! Here are some pics from our fun time!

My Tummy is Sore!

Malu got spayed on Monday and was feeling pretty miserable afterward. By the next day she was about 50% better, then by Wednesday it was as if nothing had happened. We have really had to slow her down so she doesn't tear her incision open. That means no playdates with her boyfriend Drake, no hard running, fetching, tug-o-war, etc. Needless to say, she has been pretty antsy the past few days!!

We go back in 2 weeks to get her stitches removed and to get her microchipped (which they forgot to do while she was already under) so I'm sure by then, she'll be good as new!

Quick Learner!

Malu is doing so well...she started Puppy Kindergarten on June 21st, but after 3 classes, she was moved up to Intermediate Puppy Class because she was doing so well and was being held up by another puppy in the class. We were such proud parents!

Since starting classes we have really been working on her obedience, and she is doing pretty well. She is definitely into her "Terrible Two's" Stage and is very mischievous, but is learning too. After watching Cesar Milan on "The Dog Whisperer", we decided we wanted to teach her to walk on the treadmill, so on rainy days, or really hot ones (like we've been having lately) she can still get rid of all her puppy energy. The first time we tried she was about 4 months old and only walked for about 2 mins at a time. Now that she is 5 1/2 months old, she has really moved up and is up to walking 17 mins at a time. We don't even need to hold her on or walk beside her...we can do the Wii Fit or work out ourselves while she is doing her thing!! She's so good!

She is so good! She will be 6 months old on Monday and weighs around 40 lbs. She has lost all her baby teeth and is really growing up. Sometimes we have a hard time remembering when she was so small!

Mom and Dad took me to meet a new friend. Her name is Bella and she is a Great Dane. She is 10 months old and really big, but I didn't really notice! We had so much fun playing together! Here are a few pics of us romping around...

Billy and I are still playing referees most days. I think Bogart is starting to make it a game as well, even though he still hisses and growls! We're still trying to get Malu to stop barking at Bogart, but so far that has been a losing battle.

Malu's First Bath

Malu got kinda dirty during her trip to The Hamiltons, so we decided it was time for her first bath! She didn't mind wading around the water in the tub, but once we started pouring it over her, she'd had enough. We had to tag team her to get her washed and clean!!

The fun part was trying to towel dry her off. She was still damp, and thought that the towels were more fun to play tug-o-war with than get dried off with. We only managed to get her semi-dry. Then she ran around the house to "air-dry".

Weekend at the Grandparents!

My Dad and Mom helped throw a surprise Retirement party for Grandpop and Grandmom Hamilton this past weekend. I was a really good girl. I didn't whine hardly at all on the car rides and I was pretty good at playing with others...I did get "put in my place" by Jaime's dog Xena when I got a little rough...but I learned I couldn't try chewing on everybody's ears...only Drake lets me do that!!

I was so tired after a long day of partying, that I did not even wake up until 6:30am on Sunday. That's a record for me. I figured since it was Mother's day, I'd give my mom a break! Malu got her second round of immunizations today and was weighed in at 21 lbs 6 oz. Growing, Growing, Growing. We'll have more pics at the end of the weekend, but just a short note on that...'

It is unbelievable how fast Malu is growing! Her legs and body are getting longer, and even her face is starting to mature. She is so fun to watch and play with. Here are just a few recent pictures of what she's been up to...

*I feel so guilty when we are all out playing in the yard, because Bogart sits inside and either meow's out the window or hits the blinds to get our attention. He bad wants to be outside too, so occasionally I let him come out*

Malu went back to visit her "birthplace" last Friday to see her first human caregivers. They just "ooohhed" and "ahhhed" over her and how beautiful she was. They wrote us an email asking for pictures of her because she was "one of the best looking pups that has ever come out of their farm." Of course we already knew that...but we're partial! They even told us we should enter her in some photo contests. (maybe they were just saying that to make us feel good, but who cares!!)

Bogart has gotten really jealous because Malu is allowed outside and he isn't. He'll sit inside and hit the blinds on the windows to get our attention. Its really pathetic and makes me feel guilty...so occasionally I've let him come out for some sun and grass (eating).

Unfortunately, Malu still hasn't learned to leave Bogart alone, so she is still getting beat up by him on a regular basis. In these next few pics, Malu was interrupting Bogart's snack time...so you can see him laying the "smack down"!

Malu and Drake are sweet on each other! Drake is a 6 y.o. 115 lb yellow lab from across the street who Malu has taken a liking to. Trip to the Vet

Malu had her 1st round of shots on Friday. She did very well, but we did find out that our scale is a little off from the Vet's scale. Her official weight at 9 1/2 weeks was 14 lbs 9 oz. Our scale is 2 lbs heavier apparently. But she is doing great, and all the ladies in the office were loving her!

9 weeks old

Malu had her 9 week old milestone on Monday. She has hit some of those "terrible two's" moments...and is being a little defiant. She is really testing the cat, and us to see how far she can go. So needless to say...there has been a lot of reprimanding lately. She just started walking on a leash, which she seemed to do as if a lightswitch was turned on. She actually walked three times today (1 mile each time) and that is a huge step. Next is getting her to answer to her name and "come" when we call. She now weighs 16lbs 6oz and is 12.5 inches tall at the shoulders. She is growing, growing...and even better...Bogart has lost a little weight!! He was 16 lbs and is now down to 15lbs 4 oz. Maybe that's just some lost water weight, but I'll take it. He is definitely getting more exercise chasing her around the house (see last post)

Sibling Rivalry

Well...the first week we had Malu, Bogart just stood back and gave a lot of warnings (and maybe a couple whacks) if she got too close. Those days are gone! By the 2nd week, Bogart not only gave warnings...but has now started to chase her around the house. Desperate times call for desperate measures. I guess he is sensing that she won't stay this small for long! I think the funniest thing we've witnessed so far is when we try playing fetch with Malu and throw her ball...she takes off after the ball, and Bogart takes off after her. As much as I wish they were more civil...it is pretty comical to watch.

8 weeks old and counting!

I know it has been a long time since we posted an update...seems we've had our hands full with Malu, and recently with Bogart chasing Malu! At Malu's first vet visit she weighed 9lbs.9oz. At eight weeks (one week later) she weighed 12lbs.4oz. WOW! She is growing so fast. Here are some pics of her getting used to her surroundings.

Times are a-changin'

Bogart and Malu are still trying to get accustomed to each other. When Malu gets rambunctious she tends to bark playfully at Bogart. He isn't too fond of this ritual.

But when she's busy doing other things, he keeps a close watch over her to make sure she's not doing something she shouldn't be!!

We've realized the best way to stay sane right now is to wear Malu out so she sleeps/naps good. Here is some fun we were having outside earlier today. She is under the impression her leash is a toy, and would rather play tug-o-war with it then walk.

And when she finally goes to sleep...its some good puppy sleep!!!

Welcome Home!

We finally brought Malu home yesterday March 29th! She was a little fussy the first minutes in the car, but then slept the rest of the way.

Someone left us a little "Welcome Home" Balloon on our mailbox! Still don't know who though!

First thing she did was go "potty" when we got home, then inside to explore her new home!

Then...Bogart finally got to see what "sister" meant! He's had to put her in her place a couple times, but overall he's handling his "Big Brother" role pretty well.

Its been quite an exciting (and exhausting) 24 hours!!

I'm so handsome!

We have been slowly bringing in new accessories in preparation for Malu. Bogart has to make sure he checks them all out first! I really hope Bogart and Malu get along...Since he'll be bigger than her, at least for a couple weeks, he'll be able to show her he's the boss!

I'm such a good boy 'cause I scratch on my scratching post (even though I don't have claws anymore!)

I'm such a Momma's Boy! I love cuddling with my mom!

This is my FAVORITE toy! Mom-Mom and Pop-Pop gave it to me for Christmas one year!

Wow! What a difference a week makes! They look so grown up!

We went to see Malu again today. Unfortunately we still couldn't hold her because they don't get their first shots until Monday :( Anyway...she is growing so fast! She weighs 8.5 lbs (which is only half of what Bogart weighs) and is so calm and sweet. We get to finally pick her up and bring her home with us a week from today. We can't wait. Enjoy the newest pictures!

We went to see the pups again today. They will be 5 weeks old tomorrow, and we have 13 days from today until we can pick her up and bring her home with us. We are so excited and can hardly wait. We have unofficially decided we are definitely getting the lighter color one with the black birthmark!

We went to see the pups again today. They will be 4 weeks old tomorrow! When we first got there, they were all awake and playing with each other. It was amazing to see the difference a week makes in their activity level and ability to move around.

After about 5 minutes, they started to settle down...and soon huddled together for some much needed rest after playing. The one we think is "Malu" is in the front by the white toy. You can see her black birthmark on her left hind foot. The other female is at the top right with her head hanging off the cushion. They are just the sweetest things!

We went to see the puppies again today. They were crawling all around, have their eyes open and starting to "play" with each other. Xena was less protective today and let us go inside the cage to get some pictures!

Word on the street is that "sister" is coming in 5 weeks. My Mom and Dad have been getting things ready and doing a lot of stuff around the house before the 5 weeks is up. I've had to do a lot of "supervising" to make sure they do everything right.

It's a hard job...but somebody has to do it!

Don't forget Dad that taping is the most important part of painting!

Make sure you get all the paint washed out Mom.

My name is Bogart. I am 10 years old and pretty much run the roost. I like to make sure everybody does what they're supposed to do and that I get fed whenever I want. Recently...I keep hearing my Mom and Dad talk about me getting a new "sister". I'm not really sure what "sister" means, but I hope it's a new kind of wet food 'cause I LOVE wet food.
